Work Experience
IN THIS SECTION
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is committed to working closely with schools, colleges and adult training organisations.
We also recognises the importance of work experience, not only to provide students and adults with an insight into potential NHS careers, but as a means of initial contact with potential employees of the future
Work experience enables these people to experience what the world of work is really like. It should be designed so that students may relate their experience back to their study and/or assist with their choice of career. Schools have an obligation to offer work related learning to students in their final two years at school, and best practice is to offer this learning to school students is via work experience
The Trust does provide work experience placements as a service to local schools and colleges, and caters for a variety of needs depending on the age and level of study of each student. In most cases, placements are provided to students to coincide with their dates for work experience week asset out by each school or
college, and may be for one week or two depending on the course requirements.
Requests for placements may be made “en bloc” by schools and colleges.
Offering work experience to local school and college students has the benefit of providing the opportunity to influence the career choices of school leavers. It also provides an opportunity for the Trust to work closely with the local community.
Other groups may wish to gain work experience at the Trust through the Volunteer Scheme.
