Supporting dignity at the end of life

Local care homes in Tameside and Glossop are being recognised for supporting residents nearing the end of their life to live their last days with dignity.

The “Six Steps” programme, overseen by Tameside and Glossop Community Healthcare, ensures care home staff are fully trained and equipped to help residents be as comfortable as possible in their final days. Read more about this story…

Pathology Open Day – Monday 23rd April

Local college students will be among those finding out more about pathology as Stepping Hill Hospital welcomes the public to an open day on Monday 23rd April.

Doctors and healthcare scientists will show how they diagnose diseases such cancer, heart disease and liver disease, and will also be on hand to answer any questions people may have about this vital area of NHS work.

New non executive director appointed

Major new trauma centre for Stepping Hill

A major reorganisation of Greater Manchester’s emergency services will see Stepping Hill Hospital as a new trauma centre, bringing swifter and more specialised care for people who have suffered complex injuries. It is one of only three hospitals in Greater Manchester chosen to offer these services, along with Royal Oldham Hospital, and Wigan’s Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.

Stepping Hill teaches surgeons pioneering new surgical techniques

Prominent surgeons from across England visited Stepping Hill Hospital today to view live keyhole hysterectomy surgery, using new techniques which allow patients to have an operation without the need for an overnight stay. The surgery was carried out by consultant gynaecologists Dr Andy Pickersgill and Dr Suku George, leading figures in the field of key-hole or laparoscopic surgery, which uses less invasive techniques and helps patients recover sooner.

Local NHS services in Stockport unite

Local people are set to benefit from a major reorganisation of NHS services in Stockport which brings hospital and community health services together as one organisation. Stockport’s community NHS services, previously run by Stockport Primary Care Trust (PCT), have now joined Stockport NHS Foundation Trust which runs Stepping Hill Hospital. This change promises a new era of joined up healthcare in the area, as hospital nurses and community nurses all work together for the same organisation.
